Spotlight on Cutter and Buck: From Sportswear to Corporate Uniforms, This Eco-Friendly Brand Does It All…

At 4Couture we love to know our brands and products inside and out by taking them for a test drive before we recommend them to our clients. A premium brand from across the pond we are currently fangirling over is Cutter & Buck.

Founded in 1989 in Seattle, Washington, Cutter & Buck was curated to produce garments that reflect the requirements of their ever-changing weather. The brand’s outlook for its product range are easy-going, independent, quality and versatile; to compliment an active lifestyle.

A passion for golf and a love of the outdoors were the starting point for the Cutter & Buck brand. Nowadays Cutter & Buck has an extensive collection of garments and accessories with a classic style ideal for an urban environment combined with an outdoor lifestyle. The detailed look & feel of the garments is what makes Cutter & Buck perfect for men and women who appreciate comfort, quality and luxury.

‘We are the bigger-the-better idea people and the up-for-anything instigators. Working hard to improve the world around us, we seek new frontiers to fuel our ingenuity as pioneers. We invite you to push beyond what is, to what could be in the work you do and the life you choose.’

Something that really sets Cutter & Buck apart from other brands for us at 4Couture is their commitment to the environment and sustainability. As a Certified B Corp, working with brands whose ethics align with our own is really important to us. Cutter & Buck has created their own initiative called Toward Ever Better, with 3 key objectives; sustainable apparel and products, sustainable operations and sustainable production. In the last 10 years they have near enough eliminated their reliance on air freighting their products across the globe, going from 99% to less than 1%. Not only that, they plan to have 90% of their product range to be recognised as sustainable by 2025 -  how amazing is that?!

For their retail market, Cutter & Buck have their very own Fan Shop, where you can log on and order Cutter & Buck quality sustainable products that are branded with sports team logos from the NFL, American Colleges, MLB and MiLB too.

Speaking of sports, 4Couture’s own rowing star, Lorraine, (who by the way is our client services superwoman) has been putting her Cutter & Buck jacket through its paces during rowing training, as well as to and from the office…

‘To support me with my training, 4Couture sponsored me with a Mount Adams jacket. I row for a local rowing club where we compete all over the south and recently took part in the World Pilot Gig Championships on the Isles of Scilly. We train on the water at least twice a week and in all weathers, so its really important to be kitted out in the right gear’

So why is the Mount Adams jacket worth a shout out?

‘Well, not only was it great at keeping me warm during all our winter training including early morning training in sub zero temperatures; thanks to its recycled nylon outer and its recycled inner - Gold Insulation Luxe by Primaloft to be precise! It is so lightweight to wear, it feels like goosedown and keeps its loft even in wet conditions making it the perfect jacket to wear all year round with the interchangeable British weather’

Who would you recommend the Mount Adams jacket to and why?

lorraine weller, client services @ 4couture in her mount adams jacket

‘Honestly, the Mount Adams jacket is so versatile and looks amazing on, I would recommend it to be worn by any team in any industry: hospitality, events, office - as part of their uniform, or worn for team sporting events like me. It comes in 5 different colours, including black which you can see me styling out, a male & female fit, and an excellent size range. Other benefits include its eco-credentials, being made from recycled materials, a removable hood, two side pockets and an additional chest pocket – what’s not to love!’

You mentioned excellent size range, what sizes does the jacket come in?

‘The men’s jacket comes in sizes S -  4XL (38” - 56” chest), and the women’s jacket XS - 2XL (UK8 - UK20).’

Why do you think branded team wear is important?

‘In a work setting, it’s #AllInTheDetail and branded garments make a team look professional and give a sense of pride, unity and belonging. Branded garments for your employees or colleagues may be worn to and from the workplace, at events or out and about when walking hotel grounds and are instantly recognised by customers.

I think within a sports setting, it's also important to have crews fully kitted out in branded team wear. Your eyes are drawn to the brand or sponsor logos, and the overall look of the team’s kit gives me an idea of their team/brand culture, ethic and intentions - which are usually to perform as well and they can but also have fun doing it!

On a side note…I don’t know about you, but we are loving watching Team GB competing in their Stella McCartney designed Adidas kit for the 2025 Olympics and we loved the opening ceremony where all the countries went down the river in their matching Olympic outfits.’

How can the Mount Adams Jacket be branded?

‘The 4Couture design team can talk through the most effective way to achieve your company’s branding requirements. We have in house experts in both print and embroidery, and we’ll be able to advise which would suit you best depending on your needs. On something as premium as this jacket, we’d recommend embroidery as it’s much longer lasting. At 4Couture we pride ourselves on going the extra mile, and for garments that have waterproof properties we’ll make sure the embroidery is taped inside and ensure it retains its water-resistant capability.’

What's next for you and your crew?

‘We are competing both locally and in Cornwall and Devon a few times over the summer months and training every week. Although the summer is upon us, our typical English weather isn't always the kindest, so I’ll usually be found sporting my Mount Adams Jacket, much to the envy of my other crew mates. With a premium brand like Cutter and Buck, I have 100% confidence this jacket can take everything I throw at it, and would also look great with a medal around my neck! (I can dream!)’

Are there any other Cutter & Buck items you’ve got your eye on?

‘Cutter and Buck are predominantly a sportswear and lifestyle brand both offering excellent performance and style. Some of my other favourite garments from the current sportswear range are….

The Adapt Full Zip Jacket. Again available in both men and women’s fits, these sweatshirts are perfect layering garments and come in a gorgeous ivy green colour, as well as the classic black or navy. Created from high quality and eco-certified fabrics, this zip sweatshirt gives a balance of stretch and lightweight warmth with the brushed fleece inner whilst being designed with sweat wicking technology which makes this perfect for sports. Made from 88% recycled polyester, this jacket doesn't just offer style, it backs up the brands credentials and is perfect for teams wanting to be more eco friendly with their uniform offering.

Another favourite for both myself and the team here at 4couture is the Suncadia Skort. As well as being perfect for Tennis and other sports, this has become a staple uniform item for our resort clients, it’s got a 5* star look and feel and feedback from the teams that wear it, has been brilliant. It’s an ideal uniform piece for anyone in an active role. This is a perfect alternative to a short for the summer with flattering lines and again moisture wicking fabric. With great stretch capabilities and integrated shorts underneath for a comfortable and practical fit. With UPF 50+, this will also keep you worry free on sunny days. Available in white, navy or black.

And for all the corporate golfers and for those of you looking for uniform for corporate golfing days, we love the Seabeck Polo - mainly because its available in pink! (THE 4Couture colour )  In both men and women’s fits, this polo is not only stylish, but with built in UV protection UPF 30+ and wicking properties, this polo is designed for an active lifestyle. Available in 7 different colourways, you will also be sure to find the colour for you!

There are also some leisurewear items that I love for general day to day and more for the office or workplace. We love the new sherpa fleece trends, and Cutter and Buck haven't missed this trend! Not only that, these fleeces are made from post consumer recycled plastic water bottles. Available in white or navy, and again in both men and women’s fit. With a feature contrast piping and chest pocket which is the perfect spot for some branding. With a brushed fleece inside for ultimate comfort this jacket has to be a go to for winter 2024 and is next on my shopping list.

And  last but not least and absolutely worth a mention is the Wedderburn Jacket which we have also rolled out to one of our clients, for their outdoor team. Made from 90% recycled polyester, this jacket is both wind and waterproof, making it the ultimate winter coat. Whilst still being breathable to stop you getting too hot, this longer length coat is perfect for exploring and from getting to and from the office. Another coat with a handy zip off hood, Cutter and Buck have thought about all the little details with this one.’
