Face Mask Bingo... Who's In?!
/You’d think after almost a year of wearing face masks, we’d all be proficient in how to wear them correctly but if my weekly trip to the supermarket is anything to go by.....apparently not!
If you’re looking for a little light hearted fun then feel free to print out our handy guide below of how NOT to wear a mask and see how many offences you spot whilst out and about on your permitted daily exercise...
The casually walking and talking whilst your mask is on your arm/handbag/pocket delete as appropriate, basically anywhere but being worn offender, please note, face masks won’t offer any protection if you don’t actually wear them.
Oooh now we’ve all seen people like picture no 2, the individual in the supermarket who holds a piece of fabric / mask in front of their face but doesn’t actually wear any protection properly. Gee thanks, that sort of effort won’t protect either you or me...
The popular pulling down of the facemask to talk pose, this one’s a classic but again don’t forget the whole point of wearing a mask is to reduce the spread of airborne COVID droplets so pulling your mask down to chat completely misses the point. The same applies if you’re removing your mask to eat or drink!
Now although this pic is super cute, wearing your face mask as a headband isn’t going to work in terms of reducing transmission of Covid, might be a trend for 2022 though when we’ve all got surplus masks in our wardrobe.
This is probably THE most common faux pas in terms of mask wearing, wearing a face mask but allowing your nose to poke out the top or even worse, allowing both your nose and mouth to be exposed and wearing it under the chin.
Finally the chin mask, again another popular look however, don’t forget that whilst your mask is hanging from your face, it’s gathering up particles all the time so when you come to pop it back on, you’re actually applying that fabric (and germs) straight into your mouth and nose.
We could go on but if you’re going to wear a mask, whether it’s medical grade, homemade or a combination of the two, please take a couple of minutes to make sure you’re wearing it properly.
We’re still all in this together so let’s do our bit to protect ourselves and also our community.
Joking aside, if you’re interested in the latest face mask research then the CDC has just updated their guidance with regards to mask wearing and it’s now recommended that for optimum protection, you should wear a medical mask with a fabric mask layered over the top. You can read more about ‘double masking’ here.
